Description
The Casa Grande Ruins National Monument is located near the town of Coolidge, Arizona. The big house was constructed of caliche mud by the Hohokam people in the 1200s and 1300s. A culture of communal irrigation fed agriculture prospered in the area for many decades. The compound was abandoned for unknown reasons before the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500s. The descendants of the Hohokam may be the Tohono O'odham people.
